Mingachevir Reservoir (Qakh)

Went fishing at the Mingachevir Reservoir! Came in from the Qakh side. 60 km of dirt road from the highway and your car turns into a moving cloud of dust. Don't know what it's like on the other sides of the reservoir right now, but I don't recommend anyone go fishing from the Qakh side. The dust and the wrecked road would all be no big deal if there were fish there. But sadly there aren't any. :( What there is, though, is beekeepers and poachers who live on the shore and set out their kilometer-long nets. We got to know one of them and became buddies. He even lent us his boat, but warned us right away that there's nothing to catch on a rod here right now. And sure enough - not on worms, not on grasshoppers, not on spoons, not on anything else is anything biting right now... :( Even the small stuff isn't biting. Same thing on the Alazani River, which flows into the reservoir here. Admittedly I won't say I tried fishing at night, no, but during the day there's definitely nothing to do there. To back up what I'm saying about there being no fish there right now, I'll add that before we left, my poacher buddy decided to hook us up with some fish so we wouldn't leave empty-handed, and started checking his fyke nets in front of us. Well, out of the 6 fyke nets he had along the shore he pulled out only about 3 kg of fish, and those were little catfish of 500-700 g. So decide for yourselves whether it's worth spending your money and energy on fishing like that... But for hunting it's just the place to go! Big hares, lots of foxes, flocks of partridges and other game will probably make any hunter happy...
