YEVLAKH DISTRICT is located on the right bank of the Kura River and is one of the towns of the region traditionally known among the people as GANJABASAR, that is, the territory of the former Ganja Khanate. Ganjabasar includes several districts of Azerbaijan that share not only a common history but also similar climatic and geographical conditions.

THE CITY OF YEVLAKH is the administrative center of Yevlakh District, 287 km from Baku. Yevlakh is notable for its location - it stands at the crossroads of many roads that branch off from here to the cities of Mingachevir, Shaki, Balakan, Ganja, Khankendi. It is no accident that 12th-century written sources called Yevlakh the "Gates of Garabagh". Through these "gates" passed not only caravans and travelers, but also flocks of sheep driven to the summer pastures, the yaylags, located in the alpine meadows.

If you take the Yevlakh-Balakan train, the purpose of the trip and the speed of travel fade into the background: the places you will pass through are so beautiful that you will want to pull the "emergency brake" and step off the carriage to continue on foot or on horseback, as people did in olden times. And our route through these "Gates of Garabagh" leads to Ganjabasar.

In Yevlakh, in the villages of Garamammadli, Garamanli, Khaldan, a number of archaeological sites from the Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages have been discovered.
