KURDAMIR DISTRICT is located northwest of Baku, in Shirvan, a historical region of Azerbaijan. It is a beautiful, fertile area, very attractive for tourism and recreation, and is sometimes called Gulustan (flower garden).
Summers here are hot, the climate is steppe, with dry summers. The wildlife is diverse: wild boars, wolves, foxes, jackals, pheasants, black francolins, wild ducks and geese live here. The region is famous for its vineyards, and the best-known grape variety is called "Shirvanshahli" (that is, the shah's). Kurdamir District is also renowned for its carpet-weaving traditions. The best-known type of local carpet on the world market is "Shilyan". These carpets are woven in the village of the same name, not far from Kurdamir.
