Fishing and Hunting Shops in Baku

A short review of the shops in town where I've happened to buy something. So I'll be commenting and sharing my impressions from memory. I should point out that I mostly buy fishing gear, and the prices and reviews I write are about exactly that. I hope this list will grow with the help of our users...

1. Matbuat Avenue - a couple of the most popular fishing and hunting shops. Reasonable prices and decent treatment of customers. Although recently, right in front of me, in the very last shop (on the left) their new salesman was pushing a telescopic spinning rod on some guy, claiming it was from a purely German company, for 40 manat, and the rod already came with a Chinese reel, line, hooks and a sinker... 2. The shop near the N. Narimanov monument, the first one (near the SeaView building). I was only there once and for some reason didn't like it, don't remember why... (2006) [gmap] 40°22'11.52"N| 49°49'29.76"E|Map N. Narimanov #1[/gmap]

3. The shop near the N. Narimanov monument, the second one. I've been there a couple of times, friendly salespeople who, unfortunately, often can't help with advice on fishing tackle and don't really know much about it anyway. 4. The shop near the Hyatt Regency hotel and the Central Statistics Office (Komandos). Not very friendly service. I had to call out and wait a while for the salesman, who by the looks of it didn't care that a customer had come in, and describing any item was clearly a burden for the staff. 5. The shop at Besh Mertebe near the Cheburashka pharmacy. An average shop that basically has the necessary stuff, but the choice is small and the prices aren't all that attractive (2006-2007) [gmap] 40°22'38.76"N| 49°49'53.45"E|Map Besh Mertebe[/gmap]

7. The 8th km bazaar (you have to search around or know exactly where they are). Prices are close to flea market prices.

8. Several shops at the airport flea market in Bina (you have to search around or know exactly where they are). The lowest prices are only here; most of the non-branded goods get resold by all the downtown shops listed above. It's a good deal, but you don't always feel like driving out there, searching and elbowing through the crowd...
