And so the report doesn't look bare, a few words, backed up with photos, about my latest trip to Sri Lanka. Though as it turned out, November isn't the best time for spearfishing there. The first three days we were there the weather was great - sun, and underwater visibility of 3-5 m even near the shore. And at the remote spots out in the ocean, 10-12 m. Not the best visibility for the ocean, of course, but perfectly workable for underwater adventures. Water temperature a steady 28 degrees at all depths. After that, the rains, getting longer every day, wash eroded soil out into the ocean through the rivers, and the visibility gets worse.

We hunted on a drop-off whose upper part went from 12-15 meters down to 30 m. And to dive and hit the spot, you had to take the boat 300 m. upcurrent of the place and, drifting along, dive in advance, letting the current carry you to the right point. Not an easy task, but luckily you could see the main sign that you were getting close to the drop-off from the surface - a school of rainbow runners mixed in with other small fish. That's exactly the sign that it's time to go under, and somewhere down there a big predator is herding this small fry.

On one of the dives, anchored on the bottom, I'm admiring a whirlpool of small fish circling around. Gorgeous - every color you can imagine, and suddenly ...all the small fry (fish from 0.5-3 kg.) jumps aside in one rush and a trevally (GT) bursts onto the scene and charges straight at me, trying to chase me off its territory. I waited until the fish came in point-blank and fired. The trevally tried to bolt into the rocks, if it gets to them there'll be trouble - it'll wrap the line around a rock and either bend the spear or snap the line. With all my strength I'm finning it away from the rocks, and after that it's easier. The fish came out at 26 kg.

Over the trip we took a tuna of about 20, a big grouper, snappers, mackerels.

A couple of years ago I discovered trophy hunting for myself - the feeling, of course, when you see a big fish, and especially if you manage to land it, is beyond words. Emotions go off the charts ...You've got to try it)))
