"6th Azerbaijan Spearfishing Championship "

Hi to all spearfishers and sympathizers! On September 27-28 a landmark event for us took place, namely the "6th Caspian Cup", which doubles as the Azerbaijan Spearfishing Championship.

On behalf of the club "Baki" I'd like to thank the organizers of the competition, the club "Caspian Hanters" led by Adil Jalilov. Once a year an event like this brings us together and lets us get together and chat about the stuff we're into. Which in itself is really great. And of course fight for the prize places – it's a competition, after all.

The competition waters were the Pirallahi Peninsula, with the start from the shoreline. And everything as usual: 5 hours to search for fish – the area isn't limited – however far you swim off on your fins, keep swimming, just make sure you get back on time, otherwise you'll rack up penalty points.

The first day, with a light breeze and sunshine, couldn't have been better for hunting – the main fish we expected to hunt, mullet, loves weather like that. As for hunting conditions, the water temperature near the shore was 21 degrees, and at a depth of 3-4 meters a bit warmer, 23. So naturally the fish had moved into the warmer water. Whoever caught on to the situation came out on top on the first day. And I have to say, four participants pulled ahead with a huge lead. Knowledge of the waters and professionalism played the key role.

The start of the second day looked more like a start for speed swimmers. No wonder, everyone already knew where the leaders had earned their points. And practically all the participants raced each other to the right-hand part of the area. The weather that day, as expected, took a turn for the worse – a strong southeasterly wind picked up. And the sea was pretty rough too. Those were the tough conditions the participants had to compete in.
