Sherbet-guba (Imishli)

One of the best fishing and hunting spots in Azerbaijan and one of my favorite places. The canal connects the two biggest lakes, Sarısu and Ağgöl, and as a result there's a big variety of fish: pike, crucian carp, carp, catfish, roach (of the ones I've caught). God bless my good friend Dima the spearfisher, who put me on to this spot. That's where I caught the first pike of my life. The biggest one I've managed to catch is in the video (2.1 kg). It bites well on live bait, which you can catch right there: mostly palm-sized crucians and roach. The locals fish with dough and worms as far as I can tell, but I got the hang of spinners, and what worked best was vertical jigging, i.e. along the shoreline (up to 2 m from the bank, at mid-depth), using a small rattling wobbler to imitate a wounded fish - if there's a pike nearby it will definitely go for the lure, for me it took about 5-10 min. And slowly move along the bank, and most importantly don't stay in one spot. We fished for carp with oilcake and worms, but it wasn't biting much. I caught a 1 kg catfish on a crucian on a drop rig a meter from the bank. By the way, there seems to be no point going there with shrimp - I didn't notice the locals of this water being particularly fond of that bait, and afterwards I only went with worms. But groundbait is very good. You'll gather lots of small fish, which means the predator will be nearby too. In the photo: my good friend and faithful companion Uncle Bali
