Bird Island and the Other Islands

So here's another report. I'm way late with it, of course, but I haven't had that much fun since. It was worth it even though the water was freezing cold, because the fish were awesome. Almost every mullet was about a kilo, sometimes a bit less. The temperature was around 15-16 degrees, there was practically no wind, the day was clear, and after lunch we decided to take a chance and head out to the islands.

In the morning Yurchik and I drove to Şurabad in my Subaru. It was my first time there. Yura said that, according to Lomonosov, there are some decent carp there. It was so cold at Şurabad that I just didn't feel like getting in the water, plus the night before he and I had put away a fair bit at their little cafe, the one on Chapaev. I refused to change into my gear, and Yura didn't want to go in alone, so we just stood by the lake for a while... had a look and drove back to the city. As soon as we got back, the guys from Artyom (Kamal) called us to go out to the islands. By then the sun was high and it had warmed up, and we'd sobered up a bit too... We got to Artyom around lunchtime, grabbed a quick bite and set off for the islands at about two in the afternoon, and in about half an hour we were there. After the first attempts to find fish we decided to move to another island. I'm no expert on these islands, so if I get any names wrong, don't be mad... anyway, the fish on the second island weren't big. The water was a bit murky but visibility was decent, you could see fish clearly at about three meters. Swimming around like that, by about four o'clock we'd already shot a few. And by evening we'd shot a really good haul. You can judge for yourselves from the photos. I shot about 7 kilos. Bra 5.5 kg, Artut 10 kg (record holder) and Kamal 8.6 kg. So I'd gladly go back there sometime soon. As soon as I get the chance, I'll definitely head out there.
