Zagatala State Nature Reserve to be merged with Georgia's Lagodekhi Reserve

The Zagatala State Nature Reserve (SNR) will be merged with Georgia's Lagodekhi Reserve. This was announced by the head of the SNR, Haji Chakhiyev. According to him, a great deal of work has already been done in this direction; a new map of the reserve is currently being drawn up, in which the territory of the Zagatala Reserve has expanded by 7,500 hectares and reached 31,000 hectares. Noting that the territory of the Zagatala Reserve has grown by 7,500 hectares thanks to land from the Balakan forestry, H. Chakhiyev stressed that as a result of the expansion the Zagatala SNR will be merged with Georgia's Lagodekhi Reserve. Protection of the new reserve will be overseen by both states.

It should be noted that the Zagatala State Nature Reserve was established in 1929, and next year the reserve's 80th anniversary will be celebrated.
