Tourist routes being developed in Azerbaijan's protected areas

The organisation "Pilgrim" is currently developing new routes in protected areas – in national parks.

According to the head of the organisation, Yuri Valuev, Azerbaijan's national parks have potential for the development of ecotourism. "Pilgrim" plans to carry out this programme jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

In Yu. Valuev's view, all of Azerbaijan's national parks have something for tourists to see. But in his opinion, the Hirkan National Park is especially exotic, with unique species of endemic flora growing there. In particular – the ironwood tree, whose presence in the Caucasus is a mystery to scientists.

And it's not about the subtropics. After all, Batumi has roughly the same climate, yet ironwood doesn't grow there. Also very interesting to visit is the Shirvan Reserve, where flocks of all kinds of birds that come here to winter fly over herds of goitered gazelles.
