Reforestation work under way in Azerbaijan on an area of 11 thousand hectares

In January of this year, Azerbaijan's forestry sector produced goods and provided services worth 104 thousand manats in actual prices. According to the State Statistics Committee, in line with the Plan of Comprehensive Measures to Improve the Environmental Situation in Azerbaijan for 2006-2010, in order to prevent forest thinning, soil erosion, shrinking of forest areas and the disappearance of natural biocenoses, the forestry units of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources carried out reforestation work on an area of 10 920 hectares in 2008, and collected 179,8 tonnes of seeds of coniferous and broadleaf trees and shrubs. Of the seeds collected, 72,7% were oak, 11,9% nut and fruit species, and 14,8% other broadleaf trees and shrubs.
