Most trees are being cut down in Baku's Khatai and Nizami districts

"In addition to regular inspections, monitoring has been organized in connection with the instruction of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev regarding tree felling. The first results of the monitoring have already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers."

This was stated by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov. The minister noted that a separate report has been submitted on Baku's Khatai and Nizami districts, where the most trees are being cut down: "Overall, tree felling has dropped sharply. Mostly, local investors have become very cautious about cutting down trees. At the same time, such cases are still being observed. We also receive many requests to transplant trees. We are drawing up rules in this regard. We have sent a letter to the Cabinet of Ministers."

H.Bagirov noted that the ministry wants fines to be raised sharply: "Transplanting trees is not cheap. That is, besides transplanting a tree, it also needs additional care. All of this requires funds. Fines should rise enough to cover all the costs. It has been proposed that a fine of 3-4 thousand manats be imposed for cutting down one tree."
