More and more tourists choose trips to Azerbaijan

In 2009, Azerbaijan expects the number of tourists to increase by 180 thousand people. According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in 2006 Azerbaijan was visited by 1.193 million people, 903 thousand of whom came for tourism purposes, and in 2007 by 1.332 million people (including 1.01 million tourists).

Last year the growth amounted to 137 thousand tourists, which is 11.5% more than the previous year. Over the next few years, the country plans to reach an annual tourist flow of 3 million people.

At the end of January, CNN began airing two commercials promoting Azerbaijan's tourism opportunities. And from mid-February, another commercial was launched on Euronews. As it enters world markets, Azerbaijan is taking steps to improve its tourism infrastructure and is opening new hotels.
