Ministry of Ecology takes 52 mud volcanoes under protection

"Extensive work is being carried out in Azerbaijan to preserve and protect the country's ecological wealth," said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov.
According to him, one of the most important roles in protecting the environment was played by the presidential decrees on establishing a mud volcano reserve and the "Goygol" reserve.
"The Ministry is actively working on implementing these presidential decrees. For example, 52 mud volcanoes have already been taken under protection, most of which are located on the Absheron Peninsula," Bagirov said.
"At the same time, work is underway to create the Goygol reserve. If we cite statistical data, at present about 8.5% of Azerbaijan's territory is protected by the state as a natural heritage," the minister noted.
