Ilham Aliyev issues order on additional measures to protect the Caspian Sea from pollution

The order of the President of Azerbaijan states the following:

In order to improve the environmental situation in the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea, and to continue the work set out in Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 2244 of 20 June 2007 "On certain measures to protect the Caspian Sea from pollution", I hereby order:

1. To allocate to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan funds in the amount of 2 (two) million manats from the Reserve Fund of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan provided for in the state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2008, for the construction of modular wastewater treatment units in the coastal zone along the Nardaran-Sumgayit and Gurgan-Sangachal sections of the Absheron Peninsula.

2. To instruct the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan to ensure the construction and commissioning of the modular wastewater treatment units.

3. To instruct the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan to ensure the allocation of the funds provided for in paragraph 1 of this Order.

4. In order to ensure the normal and continuous operation and maintenance of the constructed wastewater treatment units, to transfer these units, in accordance with the law, to the use of the relevant municipalities.

5. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall resolve the issues arising from this Order.

6. This Order shall enter into force on the day of its signing.
