Baku hosts a meeting of the ECO environment working group

Today the fifth meeting of the environment working group of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) began in Baku.
Representatives of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are taking part in the meeting.
Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Firdovsi Aliyev said that ECO has drawn up a plan for cooperation among member states in the field of environmental protection. The participants will discuss the action plan for cooperation among ECO member states until 2010, exchange views on ways and methods of cooperation in the environmental sphere, and put forward their proposals.
The results of the meeting will be taken into account at a ministerial meeting to be held in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, on 17-20 November 2008.
Director of the ECO Secretariat for Energy, Minerals and Environment Ali Khangutayev noted that holding such meetings will give impetus to the development of cooperation.
