Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology: "Water levels in rivers have risen due to torrential rains"

Intense rains observed from 7 to 9 July caused flooding and mudflows on some rivers in the Balakan-Shaki, Guba-Gusar-Khachmaz and Dashkasan-Goygol regions.

Currently the highest water level is observed in the rivers of Guba-Khachmaz, amounting to 190-695% of the ten-day norm. In the rivers of the Gazakh-Ganja region the water level is 135-215% of the ten-day norm, and in the rivers of the Balakan-Shaki region 100-195%.

In other rivers, however, the water level is below normal. Thus, in the rivers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the Lankaran-Astara region the water level is 35-95% of the ten-day norm.

According to information on the state of transboundary rivers, the flow of the Kura River from the Giragkasaman station to the Shamkir Reservoir is 178 cubic meters per second (60% of the ten-day norm), and from the Ganikh River into the Mingachevir Reservoir 196 cubic meters per second (134% of the ten-day norm).

As a result of intense rains over the past several days, a rise in the water level is observed in the lower reaches of the Kura River. Thus, over the past five days the water level rose by 20 cm at the Surra station on the Kura River and in Shirvan, by 30 in Salyan, and by 10 cm in Banka.

Currently the water level of the Kura River is 365 cm at the Surra station, 289 cm in Shirvan, and 281 cm in Banka.

At the Novruzlu station the water level of the Araz River is 85 cm.
