Azerbaijani expedition is 34 km from the South Pole

The Azerbaijani expedition in Antarctica, led by Huseyn Bagirov, president of the Federation of Air and Extreme Sports and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, is currently 34 km from the South Pole.
Despite difficult weather conditions, the expedition has already carried out 459 observation and measurement tasks as part of its scientific programme.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, citing information from expedition members via the Iridium satellite communication system, while at a temperature of 42-44 degrees the expedition manages to cover 10-11 km in 8-9 hours, in mild weather – 27-28 degrees – they cover about 15 km. The rest of the day the expedition members spend recovering the energy they have used.
The highest temperature recorded by the expedition on the way to the pole was 28 degrees, the lowest 44 degrees. During a day on the move, expedition members burn about 6000 calories of energy, whereas the average daily expenditure of a person under normal conditions is 1600 calories.
