Azerbaijan and Latvia agree to cooperate on environmental protection

On Thursday in Baku, Azerbaijan and Latvia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

The document was signed by Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology Huseyn Bagirov and Latvia's Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis.

Latvia has interesting experience in environmental protection, Bagirov said. "The framework agreement we have signed will make it possible to coordinate joint activities and study each other's experience in the field of ecology", the minister said.

Latvia is rated as an environmentally sustainable country in many rankings, Vejonis said.

"The time has come to share our accumulated experience in ecology with other countries. The agreement will give new impetus to bilateral cooperation between our states", the Latvian minister said.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has concluded environmental cooperation agreements with more than 10 countries, including Georgia, Turkey, Germany, Iran, Moldova, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and others.
