Sabirabad, Namishlar Lake

The weather was gorgeous and the mood was just wonderful. This lake is in the village of Kürkəndi near the town of Sabirabad,it's a former oxbow of the Kura and the fish there are varied. It's a carp lake through and through! Since the underwater vegetation and the bottom are very favourable for this type of fish to breed. The lake itself is murky and in the warm season totally unsuitable for spearfishing, but when the cold sets in and the water temperature drops below 8 degrees then all the "benthos" dies off and the underwater visibility becomes, as they say, just combat-ready! 3-4 metres. The weather was pretty warm +15 degrees and on the way we thought we were already too late, but we got lucky! Visibility really was the best you get in these parts. Without thinking twice I started getting ready for the dive. Suddenly a cold north wind blew up and, as they say, ruined all the fun of changing. Undressing and standing in the wind is a very unpleasant feeling))) Anyway the last stage was done and I started my dive into this silent kingdom. The water temperature, unlike the sea, was warm, about 7 degrees Celsius. In a word, everything promised a good hunt. The underwater vegetation really was full of reeds and snags! Basically everything was like a fairy tale. Only I didn't see any fish))) The lake is big, or rather long (about 3 km), and about 300 metres wide. The bottom is flat and the depth is about 2 metres. along the whole length! There are about 10 pretty deep holes, up to 10 metres. But I never found them. And according to the locals I'd checked with in advance, that's where the fish sit! Anyway I swam for about 3 hours and saw only one big zander of about 5 kilos and that's it. Later I got fired up to find those holes after all and went out on a boat with a local aboriginal representative with a fish finder and found them)) As they say, when it rains it pours! So according to the fish finder there were loads of fish sitting there at a depth of about 9.5 metres!!! ( the fish finder just went crazy at that moment))))) According to the fish finder the fish were pretty big, from 60 to 100 cm. I just didn't have it in me to change and dive a second time! I was worn out from swimming and the thought of changing in that strong cold wind killed all desire!
